CINCINNATI -- The Titans defeated Thomas More, 4-0, in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match that was held at Xavier University Saturday before winning at Mount St. Joseph, 1-0, on Sunday in non-league play. Westminster improves to 9-5-2 and 3-1 in the PAC with the victories. Senior midfielder Todd Atwood scored a pair of unassisted first-half goals for the Titans against Thomas More, before junior forward Andrew Saporito and freshman midfielder Matt Tomnay added second-half insurance goals. Goalkeepers Christopher Passione and Anthony Beilstein combined for the shutout, with Passione
making one save as the Titans out-shot the Saints, 27-9. Against, Mount St. Joseph, Brice Lott scored the game's lone goal in the 38th minute on an assist from senior Blake Ordell. Beilstein registered the shutout, his second of the season, by making four saves as the Titans out-shot the Lions 26-9.
Grove City 2, W & amp;J 0 -- Senior Jonathan Mahtani and sophomore Tyler Ferrier each scored second-half goals, helping lift host Grove City to a 2-0 win over Washington & amp; Jefferson in a Presidents' Athletic Conference. Junior goalkeeper Michael Manahan earned the shutout for Grove City (8-5-1, 2-2 PAC) by stopping six shots. It is Manahan's seventh shutout this year.

CINCINNATI - Westminster saw its eight-match win streak snapped with two losses during a weekend road trip to Cincinnati, Ohio. The Titans suffered their first PAC loss of the season against first-place Thomas More, 2-0, on Saturday in a match held at Xavier University. Westminster then lost 2-0 in a non-league match at Mount St. Joseph on Sunday. The Titans' record drops to 10-5-1 overall and 3-1 in the PAC. Freshman goalkeeper Lindsey Mellott (Cortland, Ohio) made four saves against Thomas More and seven vs. Mount St. Joseph. The Titans out-shot Thomas More, 22-11, but were out-shot by Mount St. Joseph, 15-8.
Bethany 1, Waynesburg 0 -- Rachelle Smith (Ridgewood, O. HS) scoreed an unassisted goal at 43:29 of the first half. The goal was Smith's third for the year. Bethany (4-10-1 2-3 PAC) took 12 shots to Waynesburg's seven. Sophomore goalkeeper Courtney Teets (Gladesville, W.Va./Preston) improved her record to 4-5-1, while making four saves in the triumph. Leading the Bison in shots was Smith with five of Bethany's 12 total shots, while Waynesburg's Joanna Butterworth recorded two of the visitors' seven attempts. Waynesburg is 5-10-1 1-4 PAC.
Thomas More 2, Westminster 0 -- Westminster dropped to 10-4-1, 3-1 PAC, while Thomas More improved to 11-6, 5-0 PAC.
SWIMMING AND DIVING

CLARION, Pa. -- Grove City's men's team opened the 2006-07 season by winning the two-day Clarion University Fall Classic Saturday afternoon. The Wolverines accumulated 1,068 points while Clarion recorded 838 team points. .Junior NCAA All-American Caleb Courage earned four victories at Clarion while freshman Chip Cressman added three wins. Courage won the 50 free in 21.56 seconds. He completed his sweep of the sprints by also winning the 100 (47.52) and the 200 free (1:47.64). Courage also won the 200 individual medley in a time of 2:01.06. Cressman made his collegiate debut by winning the 500 in 4:52.56. He also won the 1650 (17:08.40) and 400 IM (4:23.81). Three Wolverines also earned runner-up finishes. Sophomore All-American Tim Whitbeck took second in the 50 with a time of 21.76 while senior Andrew Gilbert finished second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:02.76. Junior Nick Barker placed second in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:08.61.

CLARION, Pa. -- Grove City opened the 2006-07 season by participating in the season-opening Clarion University Fall Classic. Grove City placed fourth in the four-team event with 259 points, trailing NCAA Division II programs Clarion (943), Slippery Rock (346) and Lock Haven (280). Freshman Rachel Johnson led Grove City with a third-place finish in the 200 backstroke. She posted a time of 2 minutes, 23.54 seconds. Sophomore Whitney Fairchild recorded a pair of fourth-place finishes. Fairchild took fourth in the 1650 (20:36.96) and also claimed fourth in the 400 individual medley with a time of 5:27.08. Freshman Ruth Wiedeman took fifth in the 1650 with a time of 20:51.72.
VOLLEYBALL
Wash. & amp; Jefferson 3, Westminster 1 -- The Titans (20-9, 7-2 PAC) managed to remain in sole possession of first place in the league because Grove City (7-3) lost at Thomas More (7-3) on Saturday to remain tied for second with W & amp;J (7-3). Senior Katie McDermott (Austintown Fitch HS) led the way with 14 kills and two solo blocks, while sophomore Rachel Terzak (Austintown Fitch HS) had eight kills. Sophomore setter Traci Hassell (Hubbard HS) posted 36 assists and sophomore Kylene Hoch (Hubbard HS) collected 19 digs.
Westminster 3 Point Park 0 -- McDermott and Terzak again led the Titan hitters with nine kills apiece, while Hassell had 26 assists and Hock 10 digs. Freshman Devin Kelley (Mercer HS) posted four blocks (1 solo). The Titans have now recorded their 10th season with 20 or more wins during head coach Tammy Swearingen's 14 years at Westminster. First place in the PAC will be on the line Tuesday, Oct. 24, when Westminster visits Grove City for a 6:30 p.m. start.
