Saturday, October 21, 2006

ELLSWORTH -- The Mahoning County District Board of Health is sponsoring a rabies vaccination clinic for dogs, cats and ferrets from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Ellsworth Fire Department, state Route 45 just north of U.S. Route 224.
Matthew Stefanak, county health commissioner, said the clinic is part of the health board's ongoing efforts "to protect our families and their pets against the threat of rabies in wildlife."
The clinic is being offered in cooperation with the city of Struthers, Animal Charity, the county dog warden's office, Angels for Animals and volunteer veterinarians.
Rabies vaccination of all dogs, cats and ferrets older than 3 months old is required in the county health district.
No appointment is necessary. Dog owners must have their dogs under leash. Cat owners should have their cats caged or carried in a cloth pillowcase. A 2 fee will be charged to recover the cost of supplies.
