YOUNGSTOWN -- Community Legal Aid is seeking volunteers for its Volunteer Advocacy Legal Unit Program. Volunteers assist victims of domestic violence with the process of obtaining a civil protection order. Volunteers must complete certification training and be available twice a month from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Those interested should contact the VALU office at (330) 742-5857.
Memorial rededication
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Union Township Veterans Memorial will be rededicated at noon Saturday. The memorial, in front of the township building, was refurbished by American Legion Post 267 from Bessemer, Supervisor Clair Damon said. He added that township road workers also helped with the project. The public is invited.
Kiwanis award
HOWLAND -- Kiwanis International Foundation has awarded 10,000 to Children's Rehabilitation Center, a Howland-Wilson Road facility. The gift was sponsored by eight Kiwanis clubs in Trumbull County -- Champion, Cortland, Girard-Liberty, Hubbard, Newton Falls, Niles, Vienna and Warren. The money will be used to help children whose families are unable to pay for services.
Youngstown Foundation
YOUNGSTOWN -- Protestant Family Service, 496 Glenwood Ave., has received a 3,687 grant for improving office furniture and equipment from the Youngstown Foundation.
Flu shot clinics
NILES -- Two flu shot clinics scheduled in Niles by the city health department have been filled by appointments. The clinics are from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at McMenamy's, 325 Youngstown-Warren Road, and 1 to 3 p.m. Nov. 3 at the Niles Senior Citizens Center, 14 E. State St.
Cemetery decorations
NILES -- The caretaker of St. Stephen Cemetery here has requested that all decorations be removed by Oct. 31 for fall cleanup. Any remaining after that date will be discarded.
Tire recycling drive
NORTH JACKSON -- Jackson Township will have a tire recycling drive for township residents from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the fire station, 229 N. Salem-Warren Road. Price for car or small truck tires without rims will be 75 cents a tire.
Williams will speak
EAST LIVERPOOL -- Youngstown Mayor Jay Williams will be the keynote speaker at the East Liverpool-Wellsville NAACP's Annual Freedom Fund Banquet at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 4 at Adrian's Banquet Center, 48781 Calcutta-Smith Ferry Road. For more information, call (330) 385-0275.
