NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- An anonymous group of Neshannock Township residents are concerned about academic excellence and expanding educational opportunities for pupils in the school district.
Superintendent Dr. Mary Todora and Assistant Superintendent Dr. Kathleen Roppa are preparing a grant application to this group, which could bring up to 2 million dollars to the district.
Todora told the school board at its monthly meeting that she was approached by a man from the community who was representing 26 to 30 Neshannock residents, concerned with commitment to excellence in the schools.
Todora was offered up to 2 million dollars for Neshannock if she could come up with ideas to improve educational excellence. Todora said she will be submitting the grant application Oct. 31 to the group that wants to remain anonymous until the application is accepted.
With the help of elementary and high school teachers, she and Roppa are seeking a grant that will cover areas in academics, fine arts, sports, technology, post-secondary education options, job shadowing/volunteerism and community relationships.
