Palermo aids Bethany's victory



The former Ursuline High standout scored 16 points against Ohio-Eastern.

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. - Senior guard Marc Palermo (Ursuline High) led six scorers in double figures with 16, as the Bethany College men's basketball team (3-2) claimed a 109-80 victory over Ohio-University Eastern (1-7) Wednesday in the second night of the Wendy's Classic at West Liberty State College.
Palermo's 16 is his highest total in a Bethany uniform and second-most in his career. The 5-9 guard, who transferred to BC prior to last season, scored 17 points in a Jan. 10, 2004, loss to Alderson-Broaddus when he was a freshman at West Liberty State.
Grove City 74, Geneva 64
BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- Ryan Gibson hit for 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the field as Grove City evened its record at 2-2 against Geneva.
Craig Hallman added 16 points for the winners and Andy O'Keefe chipped in with 10.
Geneva (5-3) was led by Kyle McDermott with 18, Greg McDivitt with 14 and Bryan Hill with 12.
Women
ALLIANCE -- The Westminster College women's basketball team won its third straight game Wednesday night with a 55-43 non-conference win at Mount Union.
Junior guard/forward Emilee Ackerman led the Titans (3-2) with a game-high 13 points, while reserve guard Desiree Sterling (Newton Falls) scored 11 points.
The game was neck-and-neck for much of the first half until the Titans forged ahead in the second half.
After the game's seventh tie score just over two minutes into the second half, Westminster went on a 12-0 run to take a 37-25 lead with 12:18 remaining in the game.
The Purple Raiders (3-2) would make a run by whittling the lead down to three points (46-43) with 3:25 remaining, but the Titans responded when Sterling sandwiched two field goals around an Ackerman lay-up which secured the lead for Westminster.
Geneva 50, Grove City 39
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Geneva College broke open a tight game in the second half to improve to 4-1 on the season after defeating Grove City.
Allyson Clarke led the Golden Tornadoes with 12 points and 12 rebounds, while Jackie Anthony and Michawn Rich each added 10 points.
Grove City (0-4) was led by Rachel McCoy with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
