Celebration at Gardens
YOUNGSTOWN -- Mill Creek MetroParks will host Winter Celebration at Fellows Riverside Gardens from Friday through Dec. 31. Highlights include winter garden displays, floral arrangements, a poinsettia tree and a children's snow fort.
During Winter Celebration, Gardens by Candlelight takes place from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Dec. 10. Guests will enjoy candlelit paths to walk through the gardens, festive music and refreshments. No reservations are required. Visitors are asked to bring gloves, mittens, a hat or scarf to donate to Sojourner House.
Fellows Riverside Gardens is open daily from dawn to dark. The Davis Center is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. The center will be closed Christmas and New Year's days. For more information, please call (330) 740-7116.
A Feaste of Carols
SALEM -- Kent Salem Community Choir will present its annual holiday concert, A Feaste of Carols, at 4:30 p.m. Dec. 10 in the KSU-Salem City Center Auditorium, 230 N. Lincoln Ave. Admission is free.
Arrangements of familiar Christmas carols will be performed, as will classical pieces appropriate for the holidays, including an "Ave Maria" by Franz Biebl and "The Shepherd's Farewell" by Hector Berlioz. The Ars Nova Singers, a seven-member madrigal ensemble from the Kent campus of KSU, will also appear.
The Kent Salem Community Choir is open to any singers from the Salem area with previous choral experience and is sponsored by the Salem Campus of Kent State University. It is conducted by music faculty member Kerry Glann. Michelle Miller, piano instructor at Mount Union College, serves as accompanist. The 30-voice choir performs several times a year.
The KSU-Salem City Center is the former Salem Middle School. Free parking is available at the rear and side of the building and at the city municipal parking lot on Second Street, behind Salem News.
Fine arts, crafts sale
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Youngstown State University Student Art Association's annual Holiday Fine Arts and Crafts Sale will be at the McDonough Museum from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. Unique and affordable gifts made by art department students, staff and alumni will be available, and there will also be Chinese auction with all proceeds benefiting the Student Art Association. Medieval dinner tickets
NILES -- Tickets are still available for the Dec. 8 and 9 Boar's Head Christmas Dinner, a medieval experience presented by Tapestries of Ohio. The 12-member vocal ensemble holds the dinners at the Niles Masonic Temple.
The evening features acappella-style music in period costume with the Lords and Ladyes of the Manor. The dinner, catered by Aulizio's, attempts to capture the style and flavor of the era. All scripts and songs are memorized.
