AUSTINTOWN -- The school district is hoping 1,000 people come to Falcon Fair at Fitch High School tonight. Doors open at 6 p.m., with art and technology on display, said Superintendent Doug Heuer. Heuer said there will be student presentations at 6:30. Then he will speak on academics and a state performance audit that is examining financial expenditures, staffing, facilities, transportation and technology in the district. Treasurer Barb Kliner will speak on the district's finances. People will break up into groups of 20 to give opinions on where they want the district to be five years from now academically and financially, he said. He said people will be asked to list the district's critical needs.
Child porn probe
SALEM -- The Columbiana County Sheriff's office is investigating hard-core child pornography reportedly found on a man's computer. A search warrant unsealed Monday in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court said the storm-damaged computer had been taken by a Beloit man to the Salem Computer Center for repairs. The affidavit said a store worker backed up the files as part of the repairs, then randomly checked a file to make sure the file had been copied. The image showed a boy and girl, each naked and approximately 8 to 10 years old, engaged in a sex act. A store worker contacted Salem police, who contacted Detective Sgt. Allan Young of the sheriff's office. Young obtained the warrant to seize the computer and its contents.
Parks director wanted
WARREN -- The commissioners of the Trumbull County MetroParks Board plan to ask county commissioners for enough money to hire a full-time parks director in 2007. Dave Ambrose, one of the parks board members, said the MetroParks has doubled in size in 2006 -- to around 900 acres -- and needs to have a director to provide the necessary oversight. The MetroParks board will submit its budget proposal to the county commissioners by Dec. 1. The board will ask for 208,628 for 2007, which is about 40,000 more than its 2006 request. The commissioners approved a budget of 101,973 for 2006.
