Warren prepares for holiday event

WARREN -- The city will have its annual Tree Lighting and Caroling on the Square from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday in Courthouse Square.
The event will kick off with the arrival of Santa at 5, followed by the lighting of the community Christmas tree by Santa and other guests.
Children will have the opportunity to visit and have their photo taken with Santa from 5:15 to 7 at the Log Cabin on Mahoning Avenue.
Also making holiday appearances will be Crusher from the Youngstown SteelHounds, Scrappy from the Mahoning Valley Scrappers and the Hometown Buffet Bee.
Children will also be able to mail a letter to Santa from a special mailbox set up outside Gene's Jewelers on North Park Avenue. Children are also encouraged to bring an ornament to place on the community Christmas tree.
After Santa leaves, local high school choirs will sing Christmas carols.
Downtown businesses will be open for business throughout the event.
The event, sponsored by Warren GROWs (Grassroots Revitalization of Warren) and the Downtown Warren Business Association, will feature a new Children's Victorian Christmas Village. The village is made up of five buildings decorated for the holidays.
