Conservation district promotes 1, hires 1
The SWCD and parks district will review budget requests today.
CORTLAND -- Brian Prunty, who has served the past two years as the Trumbull Soil & amp; Water Conservation District's urban specialist, was promoted recently to the position of county storm water coordinator.
The district has also hired Cassandra Loney of Leavittsburg as natural resources specialist.
Prunty is a Lake County native who previously served with both the Butler and Lake counties soil and water conservation districts. In his new position, Prunty will administer the Phase II storm water plan for Trumbull County and conduct reviews and inspections of storm water, drainage, erosion, and development issues.
He is a certified professional in erosion and sediment control. He has a bachelor's degree in earth science from Kent State University and is chairman of the county storm water technical committee. He is also active with the Northeast Ohio Urban Group, Trumbull County subdivision review committee, Trumbull Emergency Management Agency Department of Homeland Security, Ohio Storm Water Task Force, Grand River Partners, Blueprint Trumbull County commission, and the Trumbull Zoning Inspectors Association.
Specialist's background
Loney is a 2006 graduate of the Ohio State University's Agricultural Technical Institute in Wooster and earned an applied science degree in environmental resource management. She is a native of Knox County in central Ohio. She grew up on a family dairy farm and was a member of the Future Farmers of America at East Knox High School.
She became familiar with the SWCD in high school, when her team placed second in the Ohio SWCD's Envirothon competition. She also placed fourth in national soils judging for high school students in Oklahoma City, Okla.
In her new position, she will work with farmers, developers, builders and landowners on best management practices for conservation and natural resource protection. She is active with the Blueprint Trumbull County commission's education committee and the Trumbull Zoning Inspectors Association.
The SWCD will hold a meeting of its board of supervisors at 3:30 p.m. today to review and approve the proposed 2007 SWCD Special Fund budget to be submitted to the Trumbull County commissioners, who will hold budget hearings in December. The meeting will be at the Trumbull County Agriculture/Family Education Center, 520 West Main St., Cortland.
The county's Metropolitan Parks District's board of parks commissioners will also hold a hearing at noon today at the county planning commission conference room, 347 N. Park Ave., Warren, to review and approve a budget request to submit to the county commissioners.
