Child leaves hospital
YOUNGSTOWN -- One of three children injured Thanksgiving evening when struck by a car has been discharged from the hospital.
Toni Davis, 6, was released Saturday from St. Elizabeth Health Center. Sidney Kimbrough, 6, and Naijah Hasley, 3, remained in critical condition in the pediatric intensive care unit at Akron Children's Hospital. The three children were injured while they were playing in a yard at the corner of Cordova and Granada avenues.
Dontae Hubbert, 20, of Delaware Ave., is charged with three counts of vehicular assault. Police said he was driving on Granada when he sideswiped a car, hit a tree, and then the children. He fled on foot but later turned himself in to police.

YOUNGSTOWN -- Youngstown police said they obtained a good image from security cameras of the man who robbed the Subway Shop, 830 E. Midlothian Blvd., about 4 p.m. Saturday. Police said the man told shop workers to open the register or he would shoot. He kept his hand in his pocket and workers did not see a weapon. No one was injured. The man took off after taking 42.
Annual winter concert
YOUNGSTOWN -- Henry H. Stambaugh Youth Concert Band will present its annual winter concert at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the concert hall of Stambaugh Auditorium on Fifth Avenue. Admission is free.
This is the opening program of the year for the concert band made up of students from Northeast Ohio and Western Pennsylvania. Membership is by audition and is open to students in the ninth through 12th grades. The concert is titled "The British are Coming," and features music of Percy Grainger, Ralph Vaughn Williams, Zo Elliot, Martin Ellerby and Philip Sparke. Conductors are Dr. Christopher Heidenreich, associate director of bands at Youngstown State University; Dr. Steven L. Gage, director of bands at YSU; and Reed Chamberlain, graduate assistant with the bands at YSU.
Dem caucus secretary
HARRISBURG -- Lawrence County's representative in the Pennsylvania Senate will continue serving as the Democratic caucus secretary. State Sen. Gerald LaValle of Rochester, D-47th, was re-elected to the post last week. The caucus secretary serves an important function by shepherding executive nominations through the senate, scheduling interviews with nominees and serving as a liaison to the Rendell administration and senate Republicans throughout the confirmation process.
Open house planned
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Youngstown Community Health Center is having a ceremonial ribbon cutting and open house on Tuesday to celebrate the completion if its renovated and expanded facility at 726 Wick Ave. The ribbon cutting is at 10:30 a.m. and the open house is at 3:30 p.m.
