Shields has 27 points for Howland against Liberty



HOWLAND -- Ellie Shields scored 27 points in leading Howland High to a 68-26 victory over Liberty Friday in a girls season-opening basketball game.
The Tigers rushed out to a 21-4 lead in the first quarter and put the contest out of reach as they led 42-8 at the intermission.
Alexa Williams and Melissa Airhart added 10 points apiece for the Tigers.
Michelle Dykes scored eight points for the Leopards.
Mineral Ridge 27, Chaney 25
MINERAL RIDGE -- Mineral Ridge didn't lead before the fourth quarter, but then took over by outscoring Chaney, 10-5, in the final eight minutes.
With the score tied 25-25, Megan Ault made one of two free throws followed by one more charity toss by Nicole Honsaker to finalize the score in the opener for both teams.
Brooke Shaffer had 11 points for the winners, while Jamie Soos had six points for Chaney.
Massillon Perry 84, Lisbon 65
MARIETTA -- Perry (1-0) broke away from a 30-30 halftime tie as it outscored the Blue Devils (0-1) 28-16 in the third quarter of the holiday tournament contest.
Fite sparked the winners with 22 points. Erica Sims paced Lisbon with 20. Emily Smith and Caitlin Glenn each had 18 and 12 respectively.
Lisbon takes on Dover in the tournament today at 12:30 p.m.
McDonald 46, Girard 34
GIRARD -- McDonald (1-0), after a low-scoring first quarter tie (6-6), built a 25-14 lead by halftime and it had a 38-25 margin after three periods.
Johavannie Mosley scored 12 points for the Blue Devils, while Cynthia Walker led the Indians (0-1) with 14.
