Concert, dinner mark 80 years of entertainment and education
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Board of Trustees and Directors are preparing to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Henry H. Stambaugh Auditorium, 1000 Fifth Ave., on Dec. 9.
The auditorium was dedicated Dec. 5, 1926, fulfilling a provision of Stambaugh's will, to use the auditorium "for the enjoyment, pleasure, entertainment and education of the Youngstown community." On the following day, Will Rogers gave the first performance in the 2600-seat facility.
The festivities
The event will get under way at 5:30 p.m. with a twilight concert in the concert hall featuring pianist Carolina Oltmanns. Her performance will serve as a dedication of the new Steinway concert grand piano contributed by the Lyden family.
There will be cocktails, hors d'oeuvres and harp music at 6:30 and dinner at 7:30 in the grand ballroom with music by the YSU Jazz Orchestra.
The dinner and concert are 65 a person, and tables for eight can be reserved. Cost of the concert only is 20. Youngstown State University students will be admitted free to the concert with their student IDs.
