NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Westminster College students are offering a children's story time at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Children's Library of McGill Library. Members of the Westminster chapter of Circle K, which is affiliated with Kiwanis International, are providing the readings for children for free. The program is open to anyone. Circle K International provides opportunities for in-service leadership training.
Receives service award
ATHENS, Ohio -- Linda J. Saul of Warren has received the Distinguished Service Award from the Ohio University Alumni Association. The award was presented at the annual Ohio University Alumni Awards Gala at Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium. The event celebrates the service and accomplishments of alumni and the special contributions of nonalumni.
Saul graduated from OU with a bachelor's degree in 1971 and a master's degree in 1972 and recently retired from her role as educational administrator at the Northeast Ohio Special Education Regional Resource Center. She serves the center as an educational consultant and previously was a speech pathologist at Liberty Schools, an educational audiologist at the Trumbull County Educational Service Center, an audiologist at Easter Seals and conducted her own private practice as a speech pathologist. She also has taught as a part-time faculty member at Youngstown State University and continues to serve as supervisor of student teachers there.
In 2005, she received the Tru-Mah-Col Affiliate Child Advocate of the Year Award from the Ohio Association for the Education of Young Children.
She is married to Leone DiCesare and has two stepsons, a daughter, a son and a granddaughter.
'Info Night' scheduled
ROOTSTOWN -- The Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Pharmacy, 4209 state Route 44, will have an "Info Night" for prospective students Thursday in the Ralph Regula Conference Center, on its Rootstown campus. Registration begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by a program at 6 p.m. Campus tours also will be offered. During the event, admissions staff members will be on hand to help prospective students complete the online application for admission for fall 2007. Individuals interested in attending the information session must register in advance. Registrations are being taken online at www.neoucom.edu or by phone at (800) 686-2511, Ext. 6270. Students attending college and who are interested in registering for fall admission to the doctor of pharmacy program are encouraged to attend this event. NEOUCOP was established at the Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine to address a shortage of pharmacists in Northeast Ohio.
Regents' vice chairman
COLUMBUS -- Bruce R. Beeghly of Youngstown has been elected vice chairman of the Ohio Board of Regents for 2007. The former Youngstown State University trustee will join Donna M. Alvarado of Granville elected to serve as chairwoman and James M. Tuschman of Toledo as board secretary. Beeghly is the current secretary.
The Ohio Board of Regents is the coordinating body for higher education in the state. Created in 1963 by the General Assembly, the 11-member public board has a direct, nongoverning relationship with all of Ohio's colleges and universities.
Beeghly was appointed to the board in 2002. He is president of Altronic Inc., a designer and manufacturer of electronic products sold worldwide. Other manufacturing businesses in the corporate family operate in Texas and California.
He served nine years on the board of trustees at Youngstown State University, having acted as chairman from 1998-2000. He is a past trustee of the Youngstown State University Foundation and also served as a member of the Regents Higher Education Funding Commission.
Beeghly received his bachelor's degree in engineering from California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, Calif.
Annual Spirit Award
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Sherrie Mazurek, a Midwestern Intermediate Unit IV staff member, has been presented with the educational institution's 10th annual Spirit Award. This award, presented by the Intermediate Unit's Labor & amp; Management Committee, was created to recognize a support staff individual who exemplifies excellence on the job, caring involvement and involvement in the community.
Mazurek is a teaching assistant at the Mars Home for Youth in Mars, Pa., and was nominated by her colleagues and students. Midwestern Intermediate Unit IV provides educational services to public schools in Mercer, Lawrence and Butler counties.
Mazurek and her husband, John, live in Jefferson Township, Mercer County, and have two daughters and a granddaughter.
Forming alumni group
CAMPBELL -- Campbell Memorial High School alumni who want to form an alumni association are asked to send a letter of interest to the high school at 280 Sixth St., Campbell 44405. The letter should be addressed to the attention of the Campbell Memorial Alumni Start Up Committee. Once enough alumni interest is secured, a meeting will be scheduled and those alumni will be contacted to attend that session.
