Area groups plan to present land-preservation seminars



One of the sessions is for the public.
CANFIELD -- Mill Creek MetroParks, Mahoning Soil & amp; Water Conservation District, Mahoning River Consortium and AWARE will present two seminars on the preservation of agricultural and natural land Dec. 5 at the MetroParks Farm here.
Reservations are required for both sessions.
J. Jeffrey Holland, a partner in the firm Holland & amp; Muirden and a legal expert in the field of land preservation, will conduct both sessions, one for attorneys and the other for the public.
Topics for both sessions include conservation and agricultural easements, potential tax benefits, income, estate and property taxes, land trusts and land conservancy and conservation development.
The first session is a seminar for attorneys and is approved for two continuing-education hours. Holland will cover the topic of legal strategies for the conservation of land, urban sprawl and increasing the value of urban land.
Registration is 2:15 to 2:45 p.m. Holland will speak from 3 to 5 p.m. The cost is 25 and fees and reservation must be submitted by Tuesday.
Holland will give a land preservation primer for the public from 6 to 7 p.m., with registration at 5:30 p.m. The session is free, but reservations are required by Dec. 1.
The topic is for the private landowner and will include potential tax benefits for the conservation of natural and agricultural land.
The seminars will be in McMahon Hall. Mill Creek MetroParks Farm is on state Route 46 across from the fairgrounds.
