Area firefighters respond to holiday fires



Several area fire departments are investigating Thanksgiving Day fires.
The Warren Fire Department is trying to find the cause of a 1:23 p.m. fire at 447 High St. Firefighters say the building was once home to nuns, but is under renovation and was empty at the time of the fire.
Firefighters said the blaze caused about 300,000 in damage. There were no injuries, and the cause is still under investigation.
Howland Township firefighters were called out to a 7:30 p.m. fire at WCI Steel, 1040 Pine St. The company's internal fire brigade had extinguished the fire before township firefighters arrived.
Company officials have not announced a damage estimate. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
There are few details about a 5:20 p.m. fire on Hnida Lane in Shenango Township, Mercer County. Firefighters said the house was occupied but no one was injured. The cause and total damages are not known.
