Two women were shot at through a house window.
WARREN -- A 23-year-old Williamsburg Street man was indicted in the killing of a Euclid man by shooting him in the stomach with a shotgun on Nov. 14 outside a Lancer Court Northwest apartment building.
A Trumbull County grand jury indicted Matthew R. Smith Wednesday on a charge of murder with a specification that he committed the crime with a firearm. Shot and killed was Waymon Keller, 50.
Smith will be arraigned Nov. 30 before Judge John M. Stuard of common pleas court.
Warren police have said they don't have a motive for the shooting and don't know the relationship between Smith and Keller.
Other charges
Smith also was indicted on two counts of felonious assault on two women on Oct. 6 on Martin Southwest and improperly discharging a firearm into the house. The women, age 25 and 19, were hit by the bullets and were treated at an area hospital. They reported that Smith shot at them through a window in the back of the house, a Warren police report says.
In addition, Smith was indicted on a charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm between Oct. 6 and Nov. 14. Smith was convicted in 2002 on charges that he committed a burglary with a firearm. He was sentenced to three years in prison on those charges.
Smith was arrested Nov. 17 in Boardman when police were called about four men walking in traffic on Market Street. While the men were being interviewed, federal marshals arrived and identified Smith as having a murder warrant out of Warren.
If convicted, Smith faces 15 years to life in prison on the murder charge and additional penalties on the other charges.
The grand jury also indicted Martin E. Warren, 58, of Cleveland Avenue East, Champion, on two counts of rape charging him with engaging in sexual conduct with a 14-year-old girl in January. He will be arraigned Monday by Judge Peter Kontos.
