NORTH LIMA -- Visitors to South Range School District have a few changes to get used to.
For starters, administrators have moved their offices to the former North Lima Public Library. Last year the district paid 235,000 for the building, a former branch of the Public Library of Youngstown & amp; Mahoning County, and has been using it for storage and various activities.
The building now houses offices for the superintendent, treasurer, special education coordinator and the building and grounds supervisor, bringing the district's top administration offices under one roof and closer to the high school and elementary school.
For the past several years the district has been renting space along South Avenue for offices used by the superintendent and treasurer, paying about 16,000 a year, plus the cost of utilities.
Security
Also, the school district has a new security procedure in place. All of the doors at all of the schools are locked after students arrive in the morning and remain locked until students depart in the afternoon. Visitors must use intercoms to announce they are on the premises and can enter the buildings only by being buzzed in.
Superintendent Dennis Dunham said the new procedure, which went into effect Oct. 30, provides the district with added safety and security.
"The feedback that I've gotten so far is that it's working well," Dunham said. "It's just an additional step in providing security to our students and staff."
