Grand jury indicts 3 men in Dill killing

The grand jury declined to indict five people.
YOUNGSTOWN -- A Mahoning County grand jury indicted three men in the Nov. 3 shooting death of Martwain J. Dill, 23, of West LaClede Avenue.
Gary Crockett, 29, of Buckeye Circle; and Eric Lewis, 18, of Kenmore Avenue, were indicted Tuesday on charges of aggravated murder with a firearm specification. Those two, along with Bertrum Moore, 18, of Whitney Avenue, also were indicted on complicity to aggravated murder in the case.
The grand jury also indicted Crockett on a charge of having a weapon while under disability, which means he's a felon and not allowed to have a firearm.
A spokesman for the county prosecutor's office said Crockett and Lewis are believed to be the gunmen who shot and killed Dill at Glenwood and Earle avenues on the city's South Side around 11 a.m. Nov. 3.
Moore is believed to have been the driver of the car they used to leave the scene after the shooting.
Dill was shot multiple times while he was in his pickup truck. Police said an AK-47 assault rifle and a .40 caliber handgun were used in the attack.
Charge dismissed
City police initially charged Adrian Washington, 26, of Youngstown, and Lewis with the shooting, but the county prosecutor's spokesman said further investigation showed that Washington wasn't in the car at the time of the shooting.
A city charge of murder against Washington was dismissed this week. The other three men remained in custody Tuesday.
The grand jury declined to indict these people on these charges:
James Blackwell, Eddie Street, Youngstown, complicity.
Patricia Owens, Alameda Avenue, Youngstown, passing bad checks.
David Dunkle, East Calla Road, Poland, assault.
Duane Willliamson, Paige Avenue Northeast, Warren, possession of drugs.
Jeffrey Howard, Hillman Street, Youngstown, improper handling of firearm in a vehicle.
