MetroParks OKs purchase of property

Tuesday, November 21, 2006

CANFIELD -- Mill Creek MetroParks Board approved purchase of property at 12 McKinley Ave., at the entrance to Fellows Riverside Gardens off Mahoning Avenue.
MetroParks' board of commissioners met Monday. Susan Dicken, executive director, said the Friends of Fellows Riverside Gardens donated 92,500 for the purchase.
"We are grateful for the organization and its generosity," said board member Rick Shale.
Carol Potter, MetroParks marketing director, said the land is the only area left along McKinley Avenue not owned by the park. She said the purchase will allow the park board to request that McKinley Avenue be closed.
In the park's master plan, to be released next year, is a plan to improve the Mahoning Avenue entrance to create easier access and to expand a maintenance facility nearby, she said.
