NEWTON FALLS -- The Salvation Army Newton Falls Service Unit needs volunteers to ring Red Kettle bells for the holiday campaign beginning Wednesday. Volunteers may sign up for two-hour shifts by calling Church Mouse Thrift Shop, (330) 872-5574. Kettle locations are at Newton Falls IGA, Giant Eagle and Pamida.
Grants announced
COLUMBIANA -- The Columbiana Community Foundation has announced its most recent awards.
They are: 1,000 to the Joshua Dixon Elementary PTO for its Reading is Fundamental Program; 1,200 to the Columbiana Area Meals on Wheels Program to buy replacement containers used to deliver hot meals; and 2,000 to the Way Station to help provide food and clothing to needy Columbiana residents this winter. Thrift shop donations
NEWTON FALLS -- Church Mouse Thrift Shop is accepting donations to provide about 100 needy families with food and about 200 children with toys for the holidays. Donations are tax-deductible and can be mailed to Christmas Mission, The Church Mouse Thrift Shop, 261/2 W. Broad St., Newton Falls, OH 44444.

Christmas parade set
LISBON -- Lisbon Area Chamber of Commerce will have its annual Christmas parade at 11 a.m. Dec. 2. The parade will travel east on Lincoln Way from Pritchard Avenue and pass through the village square to Beaver Street. Area residents and organizations are invited to participate in this year's event.
Units are asked to preregister by calling Charlie Senanefes at (330) 360-1896 or the chamber at (330) 424-1803. First- and second-place prizes will be awarded for best floats, fire units and commercial entries, and there will be a prize for the best overall parade entry.
Center seeks volunteers
SANDY LAKE, Pa. -- There are many volunteer opportunities at the McKeever Environmental Learning Center. Membership is free and open to all who wish to volunteer. New projects in 2007 include adding butterfly, organic vegetable and herb gardens to the property. Other volunteer opportunities include office work, assisting on various research projects, assisting with library resources and public programs and fundraising.
