NOTEBOOK \ Browns vs. Steelers

OSU-Michigan fallout, part one: Browns wide receiver Braylon Edwards, a former Michigan standout who was on the Wolverines' sideline for Saturday's game, wasn't in the mood to talk about OSU's victory. "I'm not talking about the Ohio State-Michigan game," he said. "I'm only talking about the Browns-Steelers game." Edwards rode a helicopter back to Cleveland in order to be on time for a Saturday night team meeting.OSU-Michigan fallout, part two: Steelers linebacker Larry Foote, who played for Michigan, and rookie wide receiver Santonio Holmes, a former Buckeye, had plenty to say about Saturday's showdown in Ohio Stadium. "For me, it's one out of two this weekend," Foote said. "I watched it. I had my little portable TV with me that I watched until halfway through the first quarter. Then we were at the hotel so I saw the rest there." Told Edwards was at the game in Columbus, Foote said, "He didn't bring them any luck." Holmes said hearing fans in Cleveland Browns Stadium cheer "O-H-I-O" in pregame warmups "got me pumped up. They were going O-H so I was hitting them with the I-Os." Holmes said he's not surprised that Buckeyes quarterback Troy Smith is the Heisman Trophy favorite. "Man, I came in with Troy and I knew the type of potential he had. He never, ever wanted to throw an interception, even when we played on the scout team." Holmes also praised Buckeyes junior wideout Anthony Gonzalez. "He showed that talent on the first day he came in [at Ohio State]. I know he's going to be a great receiver." Holmes watched most of the game at the team hotel. "Man, I wanted to be there," but he added that he did not ask for permission to attend.Another nice return: Browns kick returner Joshua Cribbs had a 92-yard return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter. It was the longest kickoff return of his career and just his second kick return for a TD. His first, a 90-yarder, came against Detroit last season. "It was exciting to be able to get one for the team," said Cribbs. "It gave us some momentum and some hope." Cribbs was flagged for excessive celebration on the play -- he jumped into the first row of the Dawg Pound. "The ref said he flagged me because I took off my helmet," Cribbs said. "I didn't. I'd have to be an idiot to take my helmet off [in the Dawg Pound]." Cribbs, who signed a six-year extension a few weeks back, is averaging 28 yards per return this season. The Steelers began kicking away from him after the return. "Teams are doing it all the time now," Cribbs said. "If I scare teams that much, I must be doing a good job."Taking it back: Browns DB Daven Holly had the first two interceptions of his NFL career -- both off tipped passes -- and returned the first 57 yards for his first NFL TD. "It really means nothing if we lose," he said.
