Convicted killer a "monster"

Convicted killer Jason Carter says he is innocent in the stabbing death of Jamie White, but the dead woman's family says otherwise.

In victim witness statments presented during a sentencing hearing in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court today, they called Carter a "monster" who killed the woman who loved him.

White's body was found under a bridge on Salt Springs Road on New Year's Day this year. She had been stabbed repeatedly, authorities said.

Carter, 30, of Carroll Street, was convicted of murder Friday in the courtroom of Judge Maureen A. Sweeney, and Sweeney handed him the mandatory sentence of 15 years to life imprisonment during today's hearing.

Carter offered no comment during the hearing. His attorney said Carter maintains his innocence and plans to appeal his conviction.
