FIU reinstatessuspended students
MIAMI -- Florida International University lifted the suspensions Saturday of the final 13 players involved in a brawl with Miami on Oct. 14.
For the first time in more than a month, the Golden Panthers fielded a full squad after the school announced that the remaining suspended players would be allowed to play FIU's home game Saturday against Louisiana-Lafayette. Last week, FIU reinstated three players before the team's 35-0 loss to Louisiana-Monroe.
A total of 31 players (18 from FIU and 13 from Miami) were disciplined for their role in the fight, which took place in the third quarter of the Hurricanes' 35-0 victory. Two FIU players were dismissed from the team but were allowed to keep their scholarships.
KSU accidentleaves one dead
LAWRENCE, Kan. -- One person was killed and another critically injured in an accident involving a bus carrying Kansas State University fans to Saturday's football game at the University of Kansas, police said.
The one-vehicle accident occurred around 11:30 a.m. less than two miles from Memorial Stadium. Few details were available by late afternoon, and police would not identify the dead and injured except to say both were male.
Lawrence police Sgt. Paul Fellers confirmed that both were passengers on the "Cat Tracker," a retrofitted school bus that takes Wildcat fans to games but is not affiliated with the university.
The injured fan was taken to University of Kansas Medical Center, where he was in critical condition.
Hospital spokesman Dennis McCulloch said the fan was being treated for a head injury and that his identity would not be released Saturday.
"The family understands the public's interest in his condition but requests prayers and privacy," McCulloch said.
