Selection Showgathering moved
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Youngstown State football team's NCAA Selection Show gathering on Sunday has been moved from the DeBartolo Stadium Club to the Chestnut Room in the Kilcawley Center. With a crowd of nearly 400 expected, the event has been moved to the Chestnut Room to accommodate a large audience.
Doors will open at noon. The announcement will be at 1:30 p.m. on ESPN News.
Should the Penguins be a first-round host school, the YSU Athletic Ticket will be open from 2-4 p.m.
The YSU men's basketball team plays Slippery Rock at Beeghly Center Sunday at 7:05 p.m.
Volleyballteam ousted
DAYTON -- The Youngstown State volleyball team was eliminated from the Horizon League Volleyball Tournament on Friday, dropping a three-game match to regular-season champion UW-Milwaukee.
The Penguins battled in the first two games losing 30-26 and 30-25 before falling 30-19 in the third game. YSU ends the season with a 10-22 mark while the Panthers (22-5) advance to the semifinals.
Leading the way for YSU were Ebony Barbosa and Ruth Boscaljon who each finished with 11 kills. Boscaljon hit an impressive .474 for the match.

Red Bullsplan fundraiser
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Ohio Red Bulls semi-professonal football team will hold a fundraiser for the 2007 season on Jan. 14 at the Holiday Inn Metroplex.
The event, called the Madden 2007 Tournament on Playstation II Consol, will be conducted by the Red Bulls Boosters.
Entry fee will be 25 per player. Prizes will be awarded. Players must register by Jan. 5.

Petras chairsgolf challenge
SCOTTSDALE, AZ. -- Campbell native Raymond J. Petras, Ph.D., is chairing the "Media Golf Challenge" for the Bowl Championship Series in January.
Media from around the world will play on Jan. 7 at Scottsdale's Grayhawk's Talon Golf Course.
Petras' specialty is in the area of pain management.
Pozzutoselects KSU
KENT -- Markie Pozzuto, a Maplewood High senior, will continue her softball career at Kent State University.
A lefthanded pitcher, Pozzuto received All-Ohio, All District and All-Conference honors for the Rockets as a junior. Pozzuto had a 10-2 record with 149 strikeouts in 76 innings and an earned run average of 0.28.
HUBBARD -- For the second-straight season, the Hubbard eighth-grade football team went unbeaten, going 7-0 with wins over Brookfield, LaBrae, Lakeview, Newton Falls, Girard, Champion and Liberty.

Southern namessix for Hall
SALINEVILLE -- Six members will be introduced into the Southern High Athletic Hall of Fame on Jan. 26 at the boys basketball game.
Being inducted into the hall of fame will be athletes Terry Kellison (1971), Will Johnston (1991), Jimmy Sargent (1982), Cathy Barrett Green (1980) and Bruce Whittaker (1997) plus contributor Helen Beatty.
Niles Highcancels meeting
NILES -- The Niles McKinley High Athletic Council has canceled its Monday meeting to discuss withdrawing from the Metro Athletic Conference.
A rescheduled date has not been announced.

Blue Jays, Thomasfinalize deal
TORONTO -- Frank Thomas and the Toronto Blue Jays finalized an 18.12 million, two-year contract on Friday.
The Blue Jays reached a tentative deal with the 38-year-old designated hitter Wednesday night and spent Thursday working on drafting an agreement. Thomas gets a 9.12 million signing bonus that is payable January, a 1 million salary next year and 8 million in 2008. The deal includes a 10 million vesting option for 2009 that would become guaranteed if Thomas has 1,000 plate appearances in the next two seasons or 525 plate appearances in 2008.
Thomas led the Oakland Athletics with 39 homers and 114 RBIs this year, batting .270. In 17 big league seasons, he has hit .305 with 487 homers and 1,579 RBIs.
