WARREN -- The Trumbull County Coroner's office has ruled the death Wednesday of Dane Miller, 22, of Shaffer Road, Bristol, a homicide. Miller died of multiple stab wounds and blunt force trauma to the head, the coroner's office said. Miller's body was found about 4:30 a.m. in the backyard of a home at 265 Maryland St. N.W. Police had responded to a burglary call at the residence. No arrests have been made. This brings to five the number of homicides in the city this year, two of them this week. An arrest warrant remains outstanding for Matthew Smith, 23, of Warren, who is wanted in the slaying of Waymon Keller, 50, of Euclid. Keller was found Tuesday shot outside an apartment on Lancer Court. He died later at St. Joseph Health Center.
Rocks thrown at cars
YOUNGSTOWN -- Police responded to a call about two juveniles throwing rocks at cars at about 8:40 p.m. Thursday in the area of 2525 Market St. A woman and her son called 911 after the back window on the driver's side of their vehicle was shattered by a rock. Police could not find the culprits.
Teenager arrested
YOUNGSTOWN -- Police arrested Anthony J. Schaffer, 19, of Plumbrook Drive, Austintown, after learning he was at a residence in the 500 block of Richland Avenue. Schaffer was taken into custody at about 3:15 p.m. Thursday and to Mahoning County jail on warrants of breaking and entering and carrying concealed weapons from Mahoning County Court. A search revealed a handgun. He also was charged with being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. Schaffer recently was indicted by a Trumbull County grand jury on aggravated robbery and other felony charges.
Man reports robbery
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 52-year-old North Belle Vista Avenue man told police he was robbed of his wallet with 39, a cell phone, driver's license and personal papers after going to the area of Boston and Hudson streets at about 7:25 p.m. Thursday to give some money to a former tenant to buy food. The victim, who told police he has helped the tenant before, told police he was approached by two men demanding his belongings. The police report lists a handgun as a weapon, but did not indicate how it was used.
Drug, firearm arrests
YOUNGSTOWN -- Police arrested two men at a residence in the 1500 block of Second Street, where they executed a search warrant at about 6:48 p.m. Thursday. Police found a revolver in the bedroom and arrested Arthur Brantley, 27, of the Second Street address. Brantley, a felon with a previous conviction of trafficking in cocaine, was arrested on a charge of having a weapon under disability, which means he's not allowed to have a firearm, and taken to Mahoning County jail. Police also searched Charles Davies, 27, of the 700 block of Mast Street, Niles, who was found behind a pool table. They discovered seven OxyContin, three Methadone and one Augentin pills. He was charged with drug abuse.
Predator awareness
WARREN -- The city school district will host a Cyber Predator Awareness Program from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday at the auditorium of Warren Western Reserve Middle School, 200 Loveless Ave. S.W.
The program will be presented by Brance Johnson, special agent supervisor of Ohio's Bureau of Criminal Identification & amp; Investigation, Computer Crimes Unit.
Johnson will speak about the dangers of cyber predators and give advice on how to protect children when they go online.
The program is open to adults only. Admission is free.
South Side shooting
YOUNGSTOWN -- A report by a victim conflicted with reports of area neighbors about a shooting at about 4:51 p.m. Thursday at Hilton Avenue and Rush Boulevard. Spencer A. Brown, 17, who lives on the city's South Side, told police he and another person were walking along Hilton when a car pulled up and the occupants began shooting. Area residents, however, told police the victim and the car's occupants shot at each other. Police found no shell casings. Brown, who was shot in both legs, was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center, where he was listed in satisfactory condition Friday night.
