Authorities investigate another crash on I-80 near reservoir

AUSTINTOWN -- The Ohio State Highway Patrol's Canfield Post is investigating the second crash in two days on Interstate 80 near Meander Reservoir.
A crash Friday in the westbound lanes of the Meander Reservoir bridge sent three people to the hospital. No details were available from the patrol late Friday night, but a spokeswoman said no one was seriously injured.
Meanwhile, the patrol and Austintown Fire Chef Andrew Frost Jr. continue to investigate a three-vehicle accident Thursday afternoon that left one man dead and closed I-80 East for more than three hours.
Richard C. Crump, 76, of Hubbard, was pronounced dead at the scene, just east of the Meander Reservoir bridge and a half-mile west of state Route 46 in a construction zone. The accident happened at 4:24 p.m.
The OSHP reported Crump's wife, Mary, 69, was a passenger in their pickup truck. She was flown by helicopter to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown for treatment of nonlife-threatening injuries and was listed in serious condition Friday night.
The driver of a second pickup truck, Edward G. Brodigan Jr., 33, of New Waterford, also was taken to St. Elizabeth's.
A third driver, Jennifer S. Wolfe, 32, of Indianapolis, also was treated at St. Elizabeth's.
The patrol reported that Crump, Brodigan and Wolfe were eastbound on I-80 in the left lane within the construction zone when Crump drove left and struck a device designed to bring vehicles to a stop. The Brodigan vehicle then struck the Crump vehicle and the Wolfe vehicle struck the Brodigan vehicle. The road was closed for three hours and 25 minutes.
The Mahoning County coroner is investigating to determine if a medical condition caused Crump to hit the device.
