2 alumni to receive awards

The award honors those who improve college-community relationships.
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Two Grove City College alumni have been selected as recipients of the college's Florence E. MacKenzie Campus-Community Awards for 2006.
Dr. Michael Coulter, Class of 1991 and a Grove City College political science professor, and community leader David O. Cashdollar, Class of 1971 and a college trustee, have received the honors.
The Campus-Community Awards are named in honor of the late Florence E. MacKenzie, wife of former president Dr. Charles S. MacKenzie. She sought to establish strong town-community relationships between the campus and the Grove City area.
Coulter, the campus honoree, was nominated for his contributions to area political and community service organizations. Cashdollar, the community honoree, was recognized for his longtime support of the community and the college.
Coulter has taught political science at Grove City College since 1995 and is a regular political campaign commentator for local media. After the 2004 election, he served as chairman of a special committee investigating voting machine difficulties in Mercer County. Recently he was appointed to the local tax commission by the Grove City Area School Board.
Coulter helped produce a book commemorating 200 years of Grove City area history and also contributed to Mercer County's 200th anniversary book. He helped establish the Grove City Area Historical Society and served on its board for two years.
An active member of Church of the Beloved Disciple, Coulter has worked with the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults and religious education programs. For three years, he headed the local council of Catholic men's service organization, the Knights of Columbus, and serves as financial secretary.
He lives in Grove City with his wife, Laura (Gold, '91), and their six children.

Cashdollar has a master's degree from Slippery Rock University and is a Certified Financial Planner. A registered principal and investment adviser for Walnut Street Securities, he runs Cashdollar and Associates, a financial planning firm based in Grove City.
Cashdollar chaired the initial building fund campaign for the Grove City YMCA and continues to develop funding for the organization. He recently became a member of the Grove City College Board of Trustees and serves on the investment and library and technology committees.
A founding member of the Grove City Area Historical Society, Cashdollar has helped with genealogy workshops. He supports the Grove City Revitalization Program and the Penn Northwest Industrial Development Corporation. He is a member of Rotary International and the local Chamber of Commerce.
Cashdollar and his wife, Kathleen (Pickens, '70), live in Grove City and have two children and a grandson.
