READY TO GO OVER THERE: One of the biggest contributions of the Mahoning Valley to Allied efforts in World War I was the Youngstown Base Hospital No. 31, which sailed for France Dec. 31, 1917. This group of doctors posed on the steps of the Public Library with Dr. Colin R. Clark, front row, second from left, as medical director. The base hospital had 300 personnel, including 85 physicians and 64 nurses. The photo appeared in the Rotogravure section Nov. 10, 1968, marking the 50th anniversary of the Armistice.
