BOARDMAN -- Trustees are in the process of narrowing the list of 71 applicants for the township administrator's post.
The position has been empty since trustees fired Curt Seditz on March 31.
He had been administrator for 10 years.
Each trustee is narrowing the list of 71 applicants to their top eight or nine picks, said Robyn Gallitto, trustee chairwoman. After that, trustees will determine which candidates their lists share and decide who to interview.
No timetable has been established to fill the spot.
The slate of hopefuls includes Mahoning Valley residents and people from out of state.
It ranges from some who don't meet the minimum requirements for the position to others with advanced degrees.
"There are some people that sound really promising," Gallitto said.
After Seditz's departure, Christina Griffith, the township's deputy administrator, was appointed acting administrator, but she left May 19 for another job.
Who's in charge?
Since then, trustees have been in charge of day-to-day operations. Under Ohio law, when there is no administrator, the trustee chairman or woman assumes the administrator duties, Gallitto said. "Everyone is helping," she added.
Items that need to be addressed are dispatched as they come in, rather than having each trustee assigned to a particular area of township business, Gallitto said.
Much of the business that has cropped up so far could be handled by department heads, she added.
Gallitto said she doesn't go into the government center daily, but she keeps in touch with employees there.
"I talk with people," she said. "If something comes up, they let me know."
