Hope Cemetery tour set for Memorial Day

SALEM -- The Salem Preservation Society and the Hope Cemetery Association will present "A Memorial Day Walk in the Past" at Hope Cemetery.
The educational walk will be at about 1 p.m. Monday. It will be held immediately after Memorial Day ceremonies at the cemetery. A second walk will be held an hour later.
Veterans from past wars will be highlighted along with other citizens from Salem and the surrounding areas. The tour will feature a narrative with stops at the final resting place of Civil War abolitionists, slaves that called Salem home, a child immortalized in stone by her grieving parents, and a look inside one of the mausoleums at Salem's oldest cemetery.
A donation of $5 per adult is requested. Children accompanied by an adult may take the tour for free.
A commemorative booklet titled "Salem's Lots" will be provided. For more information, call (330) 337-6829.
