MINERAL RIDGE -- Weathersfield Board of Education accepted the resignation of Angela Lewis as school district treasurer.
Lewis, who has been treasurer since February 2001, worked her last day in the district Thursday. She was officially hired May 1 as treasurer of Warren City Schools at a salary of $88,000 and has been working both jobs since then.
The board hired Laurena Gatta-Rouan at a salary of $52,000 to replace Lewis. Gatta-Rouan begins work today.
Lewis received two salary increases from the board in September 2005, increasing her salary of $47,250 to $53,000 retroactive to Jan. 1, 2005, and raising her salary to $60,000 a year as of Jan. 1 this year.
Gatta-Rouan, of Niles, has a bachelor's degree in business administration from Kent State University. She is assistant treasurer of the Liberty School District and was a vocational clerk/assistant treasurer for Lordstown Schools from 1997-99.
Before that, she was a business manager/office manager at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Niles, and financial aid director at ETI Technical Institute, Niles. She has held an Ohio treasurer license since September 1996.
New computer lab
In other business, as part of a districtwide technology plan approved by the board, a new 24-station computer lab will be installed at the middle school for the start of classes next year.
Superintendent Michael Hanshaw said the middle school lab is outdated and most of the equipment hasn't been changed in 10 years. The technology plan was put together by school board members and the three building principals.
He added that since only $40,000 is available for projects next year, the middle school lab will be done and Seaborn Elementary and the high school will each be given two televisions with VCRs and DVDs in them placed on carts.
Commencement for the class of 2006 will be at 2 p.m. May 28 at the high school auditorium for 63 graduates.
The board also approved the Middle School Intervention Program, which will emphasize reading and math, to be Aug. 7-18 for two hours each morning from 9 to 11 a.m. at the middle school.
The Seaborn Elementary Summer School Program will include a reading intervention program June 5-29 for four days a week. A Jump Start Program in reading and math, also at Seaborn, will be five days a week from July 31 to Aug. 11. Both programs will run 9 to 11 a.m.
