Baseball, softball will try again to play today

Rain and wet grounds washed out play for the second straight day.

Mother Nature continues to control the Mahoning Valley playing fields as Tuesday's tournament baseball and softball games were again postponed because of soggy conditions.
Because all baseball district games are played at Cene Park in Struthers, this week's entire schedule now has been pushed back one day.
Today at 4:30, the Division I district semifinals will be played as Warren Harding faces North Royalton while Boardman plays Painesville Riverside. The winners will meet on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
Div. II games later
Today's Div. II baseball semifinals will be played after the Div. I games end. Canfield plays Hubbard in one semifinal while Poland plays Niles in the other. Their district final now will be played Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
Today's Div. III games have been pushed back to Thursday. Because Cene Park is hosting two Div. III districts, four semifinal games will be played Thursday -- three at 4:30 p.m. and one at 6:30 p.m.
In Div. IV, still to be determined is the final district qualifier as Youngstown Christian and McDonald must play their sectional final. That game has been rescheduled for today at 4:30 p.m. at McDonald, but an alternate site is being pursued.
The Div. IV district semifinals most likely will be play Friday at Cene Park.
Softball delays
In softball, all four divisions will have games played today.
In Div. II, the sectional final between Salem and Mooney at Volney Rogers Field in Mill Creek Park has been rescheduled for today at 4:30 p.m. At the same time in Niles, Lakeview plays Niles in a Div. II sectional final at Waddell Park.
The Div. III district semifinals at South Range Complex have been rescheduled for today beginning at 4:30 p.m. with East Palestine and Ursuline. Top-seeded Lisbon plays CVCA at 6:15 p.m.
That district final now will be played Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
The area's other Div. III district has LaBrae playing Garrettsville today at 3 p.m. and Maplewood taking on Champion at 4:30 p.m.
The district final will be played Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
Also on today's schedule are Div. IV district semifinals at Lakeview and Eastlake high schools.
At Cortland, Windham plays Columbiana while Jackson-Milton plays Western Reserve. Both games begin at 4:30 p.m.
At Eastlake, Bristol plays Kirtland at 3:30 p.m. while the Mathews-Cornerstone Christian contest follows at 5:15 p.m.
The district finals are set for Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
