Division II
Wilson 12, Chaney 1
YOUNGSTOWN -- Victor Cardarelli's bases-loaded double helped the Wilson High baseball team defeat Chaney. Cardarelli also tripled and finished with four RBIs as the Redmen (4-13) won to advance to a second-round game next Tuesday versus Canfield at Pemberton Park. Tommy Mulligan's two hits included a triple and he scored three runs. Kevin Newberry doubled and had two RBIs.
SOFTBALL
Division IV
Lowellville 12, Youngstown Christian 2
LOWELLVILLE -- Sarayna Svetlak and Jacque Schrader each drove in three runs as Lowellville moved past Youngstown Christian. Schrader had three singles while Svetlak had a three-run double and a single to lead the Rockets (10-9). Cristen Pallozel (2-0) and Carla Blinsky combined to pitch a two-hitter. Lowellville will play Jackson-Milton in a sectional final on Tuesday. Youngstown Christian bowed out of the tournament with an 0-7 record.
Jackson-Milton 11, Mineral Ridge 3
NORTH JACKSON -- Kortney Gherardi had three hits including two doubles and drove in two runs to lead Jackson-Milton. Krista Kiraly scattered nine hits and struck out five to gain the mound win for the Bluejays (14-10). Erica Wilmoth added three hits and two RBIs, while Bill Jo Byran had two hits and two RBIs. Mineral Ridge was led by Heather Reinhart who had four hits, while January Golden added two hits.
McDonald 10, Lordstown 0
LORDSTOWN -- Junior Lauren Walls had control over Lordstown from the start, then got nine-run support in the bottom half of the first inning to help her cause. Walls (6-7) struck out five and walked two of the 17 batters she faced in pitching a no-hitter. McDonald's defense did the rest. Walls, Kayla Puntel, Jessica Ferraro, Courtney Vitullo and Andrea Robison had two hits apiece. Each of the four players also had two RBIs and one of Puntel's two hits was a double. Puntel is a junior. No. 4 McDonald's next tournament game is Tuesday against top-seeded Windham.
Western Reserve 19, Southern 4
BERLIN CENTER -- Elizabeth Srock pitched a no-hitter with nine strikeouts and two walks and also had four hits for Western Reserve (15-4). McKenzie Mowery had two hits and four RBIs, Erika Goddard four RBIs, and Olivia Meyers two hits and three RBIs to bolster the Blue Devils. Macy Marra added two hits and one RBI and Tarah Young two hits. Western Reserve advances to play Sebring on Tuesday at Western Reserve.
