Friday, March 24, 2006

CHESTER, W.Va. -- A Civil War re-enactment group will hold a boot camp for prospective members Saturday and Sunday at Tomlinson Run State Park.
The event will begin at noon Saturday and conclude Sunday evening. The boot camp will be repeated April 29 and 30.
New recruits are encouraged to attend, and they will be supplied with loaner equipment, organizers said
The re-enactment group is the 27th Virginia Company of the Confederate Army. The Wheeling-based group portrays the Shriver Greys, a company of men from the Wheeling area who fought as part of the Stonewall Jackson Brigade during the Civil War.
The modern company, which includes members from across the tri-state area and beyond, participates in local and national events, according to Jim Powell, group commander.
The group is recruiting riflemen and musicians. Riflemen must be 16 years old and drummers, fifers and buglers must be 13.
