Local group to perform in Atlanta competition

Saturday, March 18, 2006

YOUNGSTOWN -- Stopping the Violence, a self-esteem building committee of Whole Man Ministries, will represent Youngstown in the 6th annual Showtime at Atlanta University Center on April 8.
Local artists invited to perform are Darlene Brown; Jareed Andrews; D.V.A., C.O.R.E. We Famous, Suge B. and 2PM.
The committee is seeking sponsors for the trip. If interested, call Patricia A. Owens toll-free at (877) 701-2024 or (330) 744-5345.
This annual event in the heart of America's largest consortium of historically black colleges and universities -- Atlanta University Center -- always draws a sold-out audience of students from AUC member schools Morehouse, Spelman, Clark Atlanta University and Morris Brown College. Students and performers have also come from Georgia Tech, Georgia State and Emory University. It is held at Clark Atlanta University's Bishop Cornelius Student Center.
Singers, rappers, dancers, comedians and even gospel mime performances will be judged by members of the record industry. In 2004, recording artist Ciara was a judge; in 2005, it was Grammy-award-winning artist Killa Mike.
