Commissioners OK pacts for social-service programs

The health department is getting money for a head lice treatment program.
LISBON -- The Columbiana County commissioners approved Wednesday another round of contracts at the request of the county's Department of Jobs and Family Services.
The programs, which are mostly funded with federal money, run for one year beginning Saturday. The programs totaled slightly more than $794,000.
The new contracts, along with similar contracts approved by the commissioners in the last two weeks, total more than $1.6 million.
Programs and amounts
The programs approved are:
UHelp Hotline Crisis Center of Youngstown, $32,450 to provide information and referrals.
UColumbiana County Health Department, $61,782 for head lice treatment and prevention.
UCommunity Action Agency of Columbiana County, $36,000 for home repairs for the needy; and $10,000 to teach money management.
UCounseling Center of Lisbon, for two parenting programs. One program, for $74,890, is designed to help families at risk of losing custody of their children. The second, for $61,573, will improve parental skills to avoid developmental, behavioral and emotional problems in children.
UThe Columbiana County Mental Health and Recovery Services board received two contracts. One, for $313,250, will provide funding for the Help Me Grow program. The second, for $57,275, is for a truancy program.
UColumbiana County Juvenile Court received three contracts for ongoing programs. One, for $38,883, will fund a school officer to deal with pupils who are absent without an excuse more than five times. The second, for $44,077, will fund a juvenile diversion program. The third, for $63,899, will fund an intervention program for first-time juvenile offenders.
