Woman was living in Youngstown house destroyed by fire

YOUNGSTOWN -- A woman squatter had been living without utilities (water, electric and gas) at 436 Kenmore Ave., which fire destroyed early Tuesday, the fire department said.
"It's like the Old West where you put your stake in the land," Fire Capt. Alvin Ware said of the occupancy. The fire, which started with a candle, had engulfed the two-story South Side structure by the time firefighters were called at 7:10 a.m., he said.
Ware said a car battery had been used to power headlights inside the house. The house is part of a bankruptcy case and has been vacant for about three years, records show.
