Participants are asked to use their pictures to show how to treat animals.
COLUMBUS -- The Ohio Veterinary Medical Association and the Capital Area Humane Society are sponsoring a "Critter Coloring Contest" open to all Ohio children age 10 and under.
Participants are urged to use crayons in their entries to show others how Ohio kids love animals. The entry deadline is July 17, and winners will be notified by July 24.
The goal is to provide education on the importance of treating all animals with kindness, empathy and respect, and to show responsibility to reduce the overpopulation crisis and eradicate the acceptance of animal neglect and abuse.
Contest winners will be recognized during the awards presentation at noon Aug. 12 on the medical association's Main Street Stage during the Ohio State Fair at the Ohio Expo Center here.
Age categories
One winner will be selected from each age category for each of the six animal forms in the contest. The age categories are under 5; 5-7; and 8-10. Only one entry per child will be permitted. Multiple entries from the same family are permitted (so long as each entry is from a different child).
Ohio kids can select an animal coloring entry form to download and print on the OVMA's Web site at www.ohiovma.org or call the OVMA office at (800) 662-6862 to request a copy be mailed to them.
Each winner will receive a stuffed animal related to their chosen entry; Crayola's 120-count Color Force Colossal Box of Crayons (5-7 & amp; 8-10 age categories); Crayola Color Wonder Learning Book "Baby Animals" (under 5 age category); and the winning entry will be framed.
