LAKE MILTON -- Now that waterline connections have been made along much of North East River and South East River roads, many residents and businesses could see lower fire insurance premiums.
Milton Township Fire Chief Rick Pellin said at Tuesday's trustees meeting that the township's rating by the Insurance Service Office dropped from an 8.5B to a 5.
The ISO rates the effectiveness of city, town, municipal and volunteer fire departments. The lower the rating, the more effective the department.
That often translates into lower insurance rates, the chief said. He noted that how much residents and businesses save depends largely on their policies and whether their insurance companies are rated by the ISO.
Waterlines along North East River Road have been on for about two months; South East River Road has had the service for roughly three weeks, Pellin noted.

Council approved Loren Johnson and Marie Moore as members of the Milton Township Volunteer Fire Department. Johnson and Moore will serve as a firefighter and emergency medical technician, respectively.
In other business, Police Chief Michael Saltsman and council members presented plaques to the Rev. Michael Levelle, who will be leaving after serving for 12 years as police chaplain. The Rev. Mr. Levelle of Lakeview Assembly of God is taking a position in Springfield, Mo.
Zoning inspector Nick Bellas announced that new hours for his department will be 9 a.m. to noon Tuesdays and 5 to 8 p.m. Thursdays.
