Commissioners OK Felasco's resignation

Wednesday, June 21, 2006

NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Lawrence County commissioners formally accepted Gary Felasco's resignation from the county housing authority.
Felasco sent commissioners a resignation letter Friday and commissioners accepted it at their meeting Tuesday.
Felasco, the county's elected treasurer, will be sentenced Aug. 1 on charges that he stole more than $40,000 in county money. He was found guilty of theft and embezzlement by a jury in early May. He remains treasurer until his sentencing, but is banned from the office as part of his bond.
Commissioners said they have about 35 people interested in replacing Felasco on the authority.
Felasco had been suspended from the board by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development last year because of the pending criminal proceedings.
