Job and Family Services gets federal money



LISBON -- Slightly more than $400,000 in federal funds has been earmarked to help Columbiana County youths.
Commissioners approved contracts Thursday during a special meeting with Eileen Dray-Bardon, director of the county's Department of Job and Family Services.
The programs are all for one year starting July 1.
The breakdown
Dray-Bardon said the money will mostly go for personnel costs. The contracts and costs are:
Family Recovery Center: $147,211 for alcohol, drug and tobacco prevention programs. Aiming High/North and Aiming High/South will serve school districts in each part of the county. The center also will get a $67,702 contract for a teen pregnancy prevention program.
Angie Serrao of Lisbon: $36,540 to teach adults to become certified or recertified as child care providers.
The Fish Tank, affiliated with a Lisbon church: Will run a before- and after-school program at a cost of $75,000. Dray-Bardon said funds may be awarded to faith-based groups or affiliated programs as long as they do not promote the faith. The group also will tie its efforts to the Lisbon School District's curriculum. Dray-Bardon said that will help youths get coordinated information.
The Burdman Group of Youngstown: $74,959 for a program for career advancement and placement services.
Wellsville schools: $73,922 for its active after-school learning program.
