SCOUTS
Boardman Eagle Scout
Erik J. White, son of Donald and Linda White of Boardman, will receive his Eagle Scout Award at a Court of Honor on Aug. 13 at Boardman United Methodist Church.
He is a member of Western Reserve Council, Whispering Pines District, Boy Scouts of America Troop 46 that meets at the church. Eric Grabman is scoutmaster.
Erik joined Troop 46 in February 2002 after receiving the Arrow of Light from Cub Scout Pack 27 of Boardman. Since that time he has earned 36 merit badges. He holds the Stambaugh Emblem and Ad Altare Dei religious award and Brotherhood in the Order of the Arrow.
Erik is a sophomore at Boardman High School, where he plays baritone and slide trombone for the band. He is a member of St. Luke Church.
For his Eagle service project, he constructed a meditation and reading area on the north side of St. Luke School that consisted of planters and benches. One bench was engraved in memory of a former student.
Eagle Scout
Steven Thomas Herron, 18, of East Palestine, a member of Troop 119, recently received his Eagle Scout award at a court of honor ceremony at New Springfield Church of God. His scoutmaster is Mike Minamyer.
For his Eagle Scout service project, Herron held three free survival-training classes for the community.
He began his scouting career with Cub Scout Pack 44, East Palestine, where he earned Cub Scouting's highest award, the Arrow of Light.
A member of Troop 119 since 2000, Herron has earned 22 merit badges. He has held troop positions of librarian, scribe, quartermaster and assistant senior patrol leader.
His community service includes Christmas caroling at nursing homes and participating in clothing and food drives, eyeglass collections, food distributions and trash cleanups.
He attends Youngstown State University.
Herron is the son of Todd and Brenda Jo Herron of East Palestine, and the grandson of Thomas F. Herron and Jane and John Guerriero, all of Warren, and Thomas and Donna Clawson of Pleasantville, Pa.
DOCTORS
Osteopathic medicine
Two Mahoning Valley natives have received their doctor of osteopathic medicine degrees from Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Athens. They are Canfield native Michael Paloski and East Palestine native Sarah Parker.
Dr. Paloski received a bachelor's degree in biochemistry from Ohio State University in 2002. He began an internship this month at Doctors Hospital in Columbus. He is the son of Dr. and Mrs. William Paloski of Canfield.
Dr. Parker, the daughter of Cynthia Parker of Rogers and Donald Parker of East Palestine, received a bachelor's degree in biology from Duquesne University in 2001. She began her internship at Doctors Hospital in Columbus in June.
HONORS
Equestrian competition
Lisa Flaschberger, 17, a senior at Canfield High School, will compete in the American Quarter Horse Association Youth World Championship Show in Fort Worth, Texas, Aug. 5-12. Flaschberger will be among 2,000 youths age 18 and under from the United States, Canada and several other countries participating in the show. She will compete with her American Quarter Horse in Hunter Hack and Hunt Seat Equitation. She is the daughter of Gary and Sue Flaschberger.
