Scrappers suffer third loss in row

Despite a 4-1 loss to the Cyclones , the Scrappers remain in first place.
BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- Ivan Naccarata homered and four Brooklyn pitchers held Mahoning Valley batters to seven hits, but only one hit after the fifth inning, as the Cyclones defeated the Scrappers, 4-1, in a New York-Penn League game at KeySpan Park.
The loss was the third straight for Mahoning Valley (18-16), but the Scrappers maintained a one-game lead in the Pinckney Division.
The Scrappers took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Jared Goedert singled home Andrew Lytle, who had doubled with one out.
It was Lytle's third double of the season.
Naccarata connects
Brooklyn took a 2-1 lead in the fourth on Naccarata's two-run two-out homer, his first of the season.
The Cyclones added single runs in the fifth and sixth, on Jon Schemmel's sacrifice fly and a wild pitch by Mahoning Valley's Daniel Miltenberger.
Nelson Portillo (2-2) earned the win for the Cyclones, allowing five hits and the one run in six innings.
Joseph Smith earned his eighth save of the year by pitching a scoreless ninth.
Joshua Tomlin suffered his first loss in three decisions, allowing three runs in five innings. He struck out seven.
The teams resume their series tonight in Brooklyn at 7.
