Saturday, July 22, 2006

ERIE, Pa. (AP) -- A newborn boy that had been abandoned on a street corner has been released from the hospital.
The infant was released Friday evening from Hamot Medical Center to the custody of the Erie County Office of Children and Youth.
Passers-by found the infant in a basket on an Erie street corner Tuesday night with the message, "Born 7-18. Help Me." While several people saw a woman setting the basket down or walking away, she has not been found.
Erie County District Attorney Brad Foulk said the baby's mother will not be charged because she did not put her child at risk.
