Campbell school board treasurer retires

Wednesday, July 19, 2006

CAMPBELL -- The board of education accepted the retirement of Treasurer Patricia McLaughlin and hired Nora Montanez as interim treasurer.
Montanez has been administrative assistant in the treasurer's office since 2002. Her contract is for $53,705 from Aug. 1 until the board's organizational meeting in January 2007.
Montanez earned a bachelor of science in business administration from Youngstown State University in 1987 and completed the treasurer licensure program at Ashland University in 2004. She lives in Campbell with her husband, David, and children, Antonio, 8 and Juliana 5.
Tuesday's board meeting was the last as treasurer for McLaughlin, who lives in Brimfield, near Kent in Portage County. She has been treasurer since 2000, having served as interim in 1999. She said she never intended the job to be permanent because of the commute, but board members persuaded her to stay.
Also at Tuesday's meeting, the board hired Cynthia Arcuri of Boardman as high school French teacher, at $43,393, with credit for a master's degree and six years of experience.
Superintendent Thomas Robey said Arcuri has a diverse background and has taught in several different countries. He said the district was able to hire such a high-caliber teacher because though a veteran teacher, Arcuri fell victim to deep budget and staff cuts in the Akron City Schools.
