Youth Baseball: Babe Ruth & amp; Pony Tournaments

Babe Ruth (13-year-olds)
SPRINGFIELD -- Sutton Whiting struck out five over five innings and Josh Saverko relieved for an inning as the Youngstown Babe Ruth 13-year-old All-Stars beat Newark, 12-1, in the first round of the state tournament. Due to the mercy rule, the game ended after six innings. Sutton and Saverko combined for the three-hit, no-walk victory as Youngstown put down the last 10 Newark batters. Danny Popio had two RBIs behind two hits, including a double. Popio also scored three times.
Pony Tournament (13-14 year-olds)
Chambersburg 5, Mill Creek 4
BOARDMAN -- The loss eliminates Mill Creek from the regional tournament at the Fields of Dreams in the eight-inning game. Mill Creek's Tom Pulice doubled and John Eynon singled. Both runners scored on a third baseman's error. Chambersburg went ahead 4-2 in the sixth inning on a two-run homer by Kyle Patter. Mill Creek responded as Eynon doubled in a run. Mill Creek tied the game on another error. Andrew Reed tripled and scored the winning run for Chambersburg. Bob Rivera had two hits for Mill Creek and Adam French took the mound loss. For Chambersburg, Tyler Fore was the winning pitcher with five strikeouts.
