Ohio Magic (12-younger)
The Ohio Magic (29-13), which has eight girls from Boardman and two from Canfield, finished second out of 17 teams in the NSA state tournament held in Cincinnati. Nicola Gabriele gave up one hit in a 3-1 opening-game victory over Tidalwaves. Gabriele, Alex DeFabio, and Julie Sokol each had RBIs. Julie Sokol pitched a two-hitter with seven strikeouts in the second game, an 8-1 victory over the Eastlake Explosion. Julie Olbrych had three hits with three RBIs. Gabriele got the victory in the third game, a 4-3 win over the Ohio Pride. DeFabio had two hits and Gabriele two RBIs. The Magic advanced to the championship game with an 8-4 victory over the Ohio Lightning in a game that was decided by the international tiebreaker. Sokol had eight strikeouts to get the win. She also had two hits, as did Gabriele and Kayleigh Huck. Gianna Marinucci, Marissa Gorvet and Bethany Haddle each had RBIs in the tiebreaker inning. The Magic lost to the Chain Reaction 8-5 in the title game. Alexis Trell, Sarah Vrabel and Olbrych had hits.
