Garg reappointed to termon YSU Board of Trustees
YOUNGSTOWN -- Dr. Sudershan K. Garg of Canfield has been reappointed to a full nine-year term on the Youngstown State University Board of Trustees.
He was initially named to the board in June 2005 to complete the term of the late Larry E. Esterly.
Garg, appointed by Gov. Bob Taft, will serve until May 1, 2015.
He is an associate professor of internal medicine at Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine in Rootstown, president of the Blood and Cancer Center Inc. in Canfield and a hematologist, oncologist at St. Joseph Health Center in Warren and St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.
He has served as chairman of the American Cancer Symposium hosted by Humility of Mary Health Partners since 1979 and is chairman of the board of trustees of the India Association of Greater Youngstown, treasurer of the India Community Foundation, a member of the executive committee of Indus Foundation and a member of the American Cancer Society and the Asian Indian Alliance-State of Ohio.
Badger senior to representstate in national program
KINSMAN -- A Badger High School senior is one of two Ohio students who will represent the state in the 60th anniversary of the American Legion Boys Nation program.
John Miller, 17, of Kinsman will attend the program July 21-29 at Marymount University in Arlington, Va. He was one of 98 delegates selected throughout the U.S.
John was chosen based on his academic record, leadership potential and previous activities associated with the American Legion Boys State program in Ohio.
Each delegate will represent his home state as a Senator.
This will allow them to learn the proper rules and procedures of the U.S. Senate.
Lake Erie College to offernew majors to students
PAINESVILE -- This fall, Lake Erie College offers five new majors of sports management, marketing, management, history and a new pre-professional program to prepare students for entrance into medical, dental, pharmacy and veterinary schools.
New areas of concentration include forensic psychology and therapeutic horsemanship, which complements the college's nationally recognized equine program.

Assistant professor isorganization's president
YOUNGSTOWN -- Carol Hawkins of Howland, assistant professor of human ecology at Youngstown State University, is serving as president of the Ohio Association for the Education of Young Children for a two-year term.
The organization has more than 4,000 early childhood professional members statewide.
YSUassistant professorselected to subcommittee
WARREN -- Carol M. Lamb of Warren, assistant professor in the School of Technology at Youngstown State University, has been selected to serve on an Ohio Board of Regents Career Technical Credit Transfer faculty subcommittee.
The committee is composed of adult/secondary career-technical institutions, community and technical colleges and universities.
Hubbard pupils get chanceto meet new teachers
HUBBARD -- Roosevelt and St. Patrick elementary school pupils will get a chance to meet and greet their new teachers at Readyfest 2006 on Aug. 24.
Each pupil will also get a bag of school supplies, including folders, pencils, glue and scissors, thanks to the generosity of local businesses, organizations, churches and individuals.
There will be free medical checkups, haircuts and community resource information.
The program will run from 2 to 7 p.m. in the Roosevelt school gym at 110 Orchard Ave.
Meetings with teachers in the classrooms are scheduled for 2 to 4 p.m.
