The two teams open a three game series today at Eastwood Field at 7:05.
AUBURN, N.Y. -- The Mahoning Valley Scrappers lost the finale of their three game series here Tuesday night, 5-2 to the Auburn Doubledays.
Mahoning Valley scored a run in the first inning, then Auburn took a lead it would not relinquish in the bottom of the first.
Mahoning Valley scored when Adam Davis led off with his third triple of the season and scored on Jared Goedert's sacrifice fly.
The Doubledays scored two runs on a line drive double into the right field corner by cleanup hitter Luke Hopkins to take a 2-1 lead.
After that, both pitchers exchanged zeroes into the sixth.
Mahoning Valley blew an opportunity in the second inning when Josh Roberts led off the inning with a triple, but two straight strikeouts and a flyout ended that rally.
Scrappers starter William Delage allowed two runs and two hits in five innings, while fanning six. Auburn starter Hector Delgadillo allowed just one run on three hits with six strikeouts in six innings.
The Scrappers added a run in the ninth.
Mahoning Valley shot itself in the foot with five walks, a hit batter, and two errors on the night. Delage took the loss to fall to 0-2.
Delgadillo got the victory to improve to 2-0. Ted Serro picked up the save in front of 2,200 on a fireworks night.
Mahoning Valley (7-8) finished the road trip 3-3. Auburn improved to 8-6.
