Beaver Twp.says farewellto police dog
Many people from the North Lima community came to South Range High School on Saturday to say goodbye to Barkley, Beaver Township's first police dog, who died the week of Jan. 15. At right, Becca Burger plays "Taps" at the memorial service for the animal. Above is a picture of Barkley with a medal he received for his community service. He started with the department in 1998 and served for six years. Among those participating in the service was township Patrol Officer Daniel Lewis, Barkley's handler. Barkley lived with the Lewis family after his retirement as a pet.
